About me

ROBERT SZYMCZAK

I am a physician, a specialist in emergency medicine, and a doctor habilitated in medical sciences and health sciences. I teach emergency medicine (Department of Emergency Medicine and Disaster Medicine - Gdańsk Medical University) as well as high-altitude and expedition medicine (Postgraduate Medical Education Center - Jagiellonian University in Kraków). I work as a doctor in the Air Ambulance Service in Gdańsk.

I have participated in high-altitude expeditions as a doctor and climber (Mont Blanc, Elbrus, Peak Lenin, Khan Tengri, Passu Sar, Island Peak, Lobuche East, Nanga Parbat, Dhaulagiri, Broad Peak, Mount Everest).

I took part as a climbing doctor in three Polish national winter expeditions:Nanga Parbat 8125m (2006-2007) and twice Broad Peak 8047m (2008-2009 and 2010/2011). I have stood on the summit of three eight-thousanders: Dhaulagiri (8167m-2008), Nanga Parbat (8125m-2010), and Mount Everest (8848m-2012). In 2008, for my participation in the international rescue operation on Annapurna for the Spanish mountaineer Iñaki Ochoa de Olza, I was awarded a gold medal for services to sport - Medalla al Merito Deportivo.

I have conducted training for the Polish national team in mountaineering.

I prepared medical security (consulted / trained / prepared first aid kits) for participants of over 100 expeditions, including Polish national expeditions (Nanga Parbat, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum I, Lhotse, Makalu, Manaslu, Broad Peak Middle, K2).

I am a co-founder of the Polish Society of Mountain Medicine and Rescue.In 2004, I founded MedEverest. The mission of MedEverest is to educate about mountain medicine and the dangers associated with high altitudes. MedEverest encompasses all medical aspects of high-altitude activities – from online training and field classes to medical consultations before, during, and after expeditions, as well as organizing comprehensive medical support for trekking and high-altitude expeditions.

The time invested in understanding the hazards of high mountains and methods to cope with them will save you a lot of trouble, stress, nerves, and frustration in the mountains.

In high-altitude wilderness, you cannot rely on rescue services. In many high-altitude areas, there are no rescue services. Where they do exist, the time it takes to reach an injured person, for whom every second is precious, should be counted in days. In situations threatening health and life, you unfortunately have to be self-sufficient.

Discover nearly 100 expeditions,which I had the pleasure and honor to provide medical support for. Expedition participants were medically consulted and trained, and equipped with expedition first aid kits. For over 20 years, I have provided support on the way to summits for both entire teams and individual participants.

The company was established in 2004. The goal of MedEverest is education in the field of mountain medicine and the dangers of high altitudes. I deal with all medical aspects of staying at high altitude. I organize medical support for trekking and high-altitude expeditions.
