sunburns

High UV radiation in the mountains can cause painful sunburns and, in extreme cases, even snow blindness.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN IN THE MOUNTAINS?

During high-altitude expeditions, your skin is exposed to much stronger UV radiation than in the lowlands. To avoid burns:

➤ Use creams with maximum UV filter (minimum SPF 30).

➤ Make sure the cream is not water-based. The morning attempt to squeeze ice from the tube causes a grimace of despair on a sunburned face.

➤ Also use a protective lip balm with UV filter (minimum SPF 30).

➤ In the mountains, when a helmet is not required, wear a wide-brimmed hat.

➤ Additionally, thoroughly apply UV cream to your ears, nose, and nostrils.

➤ Use a nose guard, which is often integrated with glacier glasses.
